Kuan Yin or the Goddess of Mercy is one of the most prayed to deities in Asia. Sometimes, she is depicted as a male and known as the “Merciful Lord of Utter Enlightenment.” Legend has it that Kuan Yin renounced Nirvana until the world is free of suffering—an impossible task given the myriad of sins and greed that mortals often become entangled with. However, it is this great pledge that earned her true enlightenment and speaks to her boundless compassion for all sentient beings.
