Kois adorned many Asian ponds, and for good reasons. According to one Chinese legend, a golden Koi swimming upstream the Yellow River in China reached the end of a waterfall. Many of the Kois turned back, but the remaining Koi refused to be daunted. They leaped and leaped from the river to try to reach the top of the waterfall. Eventually, one did make it to the top of the waterfall. The gods recognized the Kois for their perseverance and determination and turned it into a golden dragon—the image of power and strength.
